SKE48 2-Dimension Club (2次元同好会) Interview – Furukawa Airi, Hata Sawako, Yakata Miki

  October 5, 2012

-Do you think yourself Otaku?

Furukawa: It’s more like I found myself Otaku when people told me I’m kinda of like Otaku. I think it’s not something you are eager to become, but something you’ve become before you knew it. But in my mind, this (being Otaku) is a very normal stuff.
Hata: My image of Otaku is someone who has attained the ultimate, so I think you can’t call yourself Otaku unless you really know about the series, deeply know it one step further than the rest. So I think I don’t deserve to be called Otaku when I just casually like the stuff. So I don’t think I’m Otaku.

Yakata: I actually have no idea whether I’m Otaku, or not, too. I think those who have been absorbed in stuffs they love, and went way too far in the certain direction are Otaku. But I think I’m still far from it.
When I see Airi-san, I have an impression that I’m not Otaku. I shouldn’t call me Otaku. Because, what Airi-san talks about has a completely different worldview.

Furukawa: Really?

Yakata: How to put it… It’s like she’s gone way too far into hardcore geeky world. She has too deep knowledge about her favorite Bishojo games, so when I was listening to her, I was like “oh… cool…” I can really learn so much from you just hearing what you talk sitting next to you.

Hata: But when it comes to Hagaren, I think Miki-san can reach that level?

Furukawa: Yes, probably lol

Yakata: So everyone has their own area of specialty.

Furukawa: Yes. 2-dimension club members have different interests from each other, too. But even though it’s something that they aren’t interested in at all, I have a feeling that if it’s them, they can understand my feeling. So I talk all sorts of stuffs with them.

-Have there been something that makes you transform from 2-dimension lovers to 3-dimension lover?

Furukawa: You know, I have my own favorite artist. I’m a member of a fanclub of Prno Graffiti.

Yakata: I’m interested in Korean stuffs. Though 80% of my interest consists of 2-dimension lol
Furukawa: Sure.
Hata: I think…. if it’s a real human, you might have a chance to take a peek at his private life or personality, and even the person might die….
Furukawa: It can happen.

Hata: But if it’s 2-dimension, that won’t happen.
Yakata: No.
Hata: If creators wrote them, we’ll see, but basically there’s no end and no factors to bring scandals in 2-dimension. There’s no filthy things

Furukawa: You can only watch what you can believe in a true sense.
Hata: Exactly, besides, they’re always be my side.

Furukawa: You can find something that won’t ever change. But when it comes to 3-dimension, you can’t tell what will happen next.
Yakata: 3-dimension might suddenly stop all activities.
Furukawa: Sure, but 2-dimension also may be dropped when they flopped… lol
