Sexiness undoubtedly plays a big part in selling magazines in Japan.
If you visit any convenient stores in Japan, it’s just common sense that you’ll find countless of girls in swimsuit on magazine covers.
Many people, male or female, kids or elders, enjoy bikini photos of beautiful idols.
Even if they hate AKB48 or idols in general, their sexiness is undeniable, and thus, getting on magazine cover and flaunting their swimsuits body is one of few ways that allow female idols to reach a large number of people outside their fan base.

That’s exactly why it really matters to fans which AKB48 members that the Japanese general public thinks most horny (or sexually attractive).
