Disney, indisputable one of the greatest things America ever produced. Or so I think because I’m from Japan, the country where Disney is enormously loved by all generations.
The great thing about Disney’s new film “Wreck-it-Ralph” (or “Sugar Rush” in Japan) is the producers of the film made sincere research not just about Japanese video games but also the country’s idol culture.
Look at Venellope’s hairstyle! This is precisely Shokkaku!! (Antennas!)
*Katorena as Shokkaku (in Majisuka 3), her character is named after Katorena’s distinctive hairstyle called Shokkaku, literally means (insect’s) Antenna.
Sugar Rush is the story of love between middle-aged man and young girl.
It’s theme song, performed by AKB48, and it’s heroine completely resembles Maeda Ami.
This Shokkaku style hair is quite unique to Japanese idols, which makes us believe that the producers of this film either have very deep knowledge in Japanese idol culture or intentionally modeled after Maeda Ami for buzz marketing purpose?
Disney’s new fantasy movie “Sugar Rush” is enjoying pretty good box office, reached 1 million viewers just 9 days after it’s premier (March 23th).
A box office revenue also has exceeded 1,200 million yen (12 million USD), and the number is keeping increasing.
Though the movie is popular among kids – as is the most of Disney Movies – reviews by viewers also suggest this movie is loved by middle aged men, who are fatigued with their lives.
But most importantly, the resemblance between movie’s heroine and AKB48 Maeda Ami is contributing a lot to it’s popularity according to employee of Disney Japan.
Walt Disney Japan Employee: The resemblance between Venellope and Miss. Maeda Ami from AKB48 has influenced the movie’s box office result.
