AKB48 Oshima Yuko’s Heartwarming interaction with Tsunami Victim Kids

We always keep it secret which member will join the Charity event, so when members are unveiled, people always get hyped up. With the sentiments of members who couldn’t join the charity concert in their hearts, they perform in such a way that this event will become a good memory for all the people, including small children and elder people.
Today, Yuko, Akimoto, Umeda, Abe and Muto are giving it everything.

Today, we came to Tohoku for the charity event for the disaster hit area.

The coastal area that were hit by the Tsunami has become a flatland and there’s a lot of grass growing on the field.

Originally, this was the place where a nursery home and houses were located.

But, as many people gathered at this place because AKB48 will come here, looking at their smiles as they stood on this field, I truly felt the power of human beings.

“Live Your Life positively”

I feel I confirmed the most fundamental thing for human beings.

If you walk forward as you’re looking back, you will trip over.

We passed through Ishinomaki-city after our charity activity at the Ojika-peninsular.

We saw that there are still tons of rubble along the streets of the city.

Seven months have passed since the Tsunami made us realize that our daily lives and what we have been taking for granted is actually not a matter of course.

This scenery really made me feel that restoration still has a long way to go.

“What Can I do for someone” project (「誰かのために」プロジェクト).

Actually I brought kids in Yamada-cho to AKB48’s handshake event in Iwate.

As a representative of kids, I went there with a kid who wrote a thank you letter to AKB48.

Fortunately, the kid could meet Yuko and they had a talk with smiles on their faces.

I waited in line at yesterday’s handshake event with a kid from Yamada-cho, but this kid, a representative of Yamada-cho got so tense because of nervousness at first. So I joined a line before him and after greeted to Yuko-san, I introduced the kid to her and they shook hands.

I was so happy because I could become a bridge for them as both of them had been eager to meet with each other.

Because it was a lane with 2 members, I was worried whether our plan would work out well, but Yuko-san remembers me and when we faced each other, she greeted to me in a loud voice, saying “Ahhh! Otsukaresamadesu!! I’m so happy that you’ve come here!!!” And I immidiately said “I brought a kid who wrote a thank you letter from Yamada-Cho to AKB48!!” And I passed a torch to the kid. Actually I think it’s me who felt more nervous.

When I passed a torch to a kid, Yuko-san sensed the situation and nodded “Yes!!” with a serious face. The Kid from Yamada-cho talked to Yuko-san, “Thank you so much for receiving our thank you letter and even wrote a reply to us…. Thank you so much!”. Though the kid was very nervous, the kid was trying his best to covey his gratitude to her.

Yuko-san bent down and look into a face of the kid, who were frantically trying to convey his and the town’s gratitude to AKB48, and said “Thank you so much, too. You made me very happy.” with a tender smile. Though Hagashi came over to them, Yuko-san seemed that she didn’t get her hands off from the kid.

The house of the kid was burned down by fire during the disaster, and he is now living in a temporary housing. While the kid has been living a life with a lot of problems, the kid has always held a dream to meet Yuko-san. The kid wanted to meet her and pay gratitude to her. Yuko-san, too, has been always cared about kids who she often meets at handshake events during the charity events. And they finally met each other yesterday.

In the past one year, I’ve joined handshake events of AKB48 in order to convey gratitude from the kids to AKB48. Whenever I came up, Yuko-san asked me “Are they doing fine? How are they doing? Could you tell them that I’m doing alright?” “I want to meet the kids, so could you tell them that I will definitely come to meet them?” Yuko-san always gave her reply to the message from kids. And the kids always looked happy whenever I report her replies to them.
